• Phone number — used as your primary identifier and for SMS verification
• Full name — provided during registration
• Location — city or area, used to match listings with nearby collectors
• Listing photos — images you upload when creating scrap listings
• Identity documents — submitted during collector verification (NIN, BVN, Driver's License, Voter's Card, or Passport)
• Transaction history — records of completed pickups and payments
• Device and usage data — browser type, pages visited, and interaction logs for improving the service

We use your information to:

• Create and manage your account
• Verify your identity (for collectors)
• Match scrap listings with nearby collectors
• Facilitate transactions between users
• Send you OTP codes and transaction notifications via SMS
• Provide customer support
• Improve and develop the Platform
• Comply with legal obligations

We share your information only in the following circumstances:

• Between transaction parties — when a pickup is scheduled, the collector's name and the seller's location are shared with each other to complete the transaction
• Service providers — SMS delivery providers (e.g. Termii) who process OTP codes and notifications on our behalf, under strict confidentiality
• Legal requirements — when required by Nigerian law, court order, or government authority
• Safety — to investigate suspected fraud, abuse, or illegal activity on the Platform

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), secure database storage through Supabase, and restricted access controls.

Identity documents submitted for verification are stored securely and accessed only by authorised Octoscrap administrators for verification purposes. No security system is perfect, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

As a user, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Correction — update or correct inaccurate information through your profile settings or by contacting us
• Deletion — request deletion of your account and associated data, subject to our legal retention obligations
• Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format

By creating an account, you consent to receiving SMS messages from Octoscrap, including:

• One-time passwords (OTPs) for login verification
• Transaction notifications (offer received, offer accepted, pickup scheduled)

Standard SMS rates from your mobile carrier may apply. You may opt out of non-essential notifications through your account settings.

Octoscrap uses browser cookies and local storage to:

• Maintain your login session
• Remember your interface preferences (e.g. sidebar state)

We do not use tracking cookies for advertising. Session cookies are deleted when you sign out. Preference data stored in local storage can be cleared by clearing your browser data.

Octoscrap is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we discover that a user is under 18, we will terminate their account and delete their data promptly.
